About this event
What happens when the greatest threat is not an enemy, but the cold itself?
Siachen is a gripping survival drama about three Indian soldiers stranded on the Siachen Glacier after a devastating blizzard cuts them off from their base. As they wait for help, the harsh landscape begins to test their courage, friendships, beliefs and sanity. Written by Aditya Rawal and directed by Makarand Deshpande, the play looks beyond the battlefield to ask what keeps us going when hope is all we have.
High above the world, where the cold can be as dangerous as any weapon, three Indian soldiers find themselves stranded on the Siachen Glacier. A catastrophic blizzard has wiped away their surroundings and cut them off from the base. With no idea when help will arrive, they are left to survive the unforgiving terrain, the uncertainty of their situation and, eventually, the conflicts within themselves.
Written by Aditya Rawal and directed by Makarand Deshpande, Siachen is much more than a survival story. Set against one of the world's highest and coldest battlefields, the play explores duty, friendship, fear, nationalism, trust and the strange absurdity of a conflict where nature itself can become the greatest adversary.
As the days pass, the soldiers begin to confront questions that go far beyond whether they will make it home. What does duty mean when survival is at stake? How much can a person endure before the mind begins to give way? And when the real enemy is not necessarily the person on the other side, but the environment, the isolation and the uncertainty, what exactly are we fighting for?
The play was originally written in English and later translated into Hindi by Raghav Dutt. Its stark visual world, atmospheric sound design and music by Ajay Jayanthi bring the unforgiving landscape of Siachen into the theatre, creating an experience that is tense, intimate and deeply human.
At its heart, Siachen is a story about resilience. About ordinary people placed in extraordinary circumstances. And about holding on to hope when there is very little else left to hold on to.
