About
Sahitya Sangh Mandir is the Girgaon theatre and cultural home of Mumbai Marathi Sahitya Sangh, an institution founded in 1935 to advance Marathi language, literature and theatre. The purpose-built venue opened on 6 April 1964 after the Sangh established a permanent base at Kelewadi.
The Sangh’s programme spans Marathi plays, experimental theatre, drama festivals and training alongside lectures, literary meetings, conferences, poetry gatherings, language education, publications and cultural awards. The auditorium gives Marathi theatre companies and audiences a long-established central Mumbai stage, while the wider institution also supports a reference library and theatre education.
