About this event
What happens when women are finally given the space to speak openly about their bodies, their desires, their fears and their experiences?
Written by Eve Ensler, The Vagina Monologues is an episodic play built around a series of stories drawn from women's experiences. Some are funny and irreverent, some deeply moving, and some difficult to hear. Together, they create a larger conversation about womanhood, sexuality, relationships, violence, identity and the ways society teaches women to remain silent about their own bodies.
The Poor Box Productions staging, directed by Mahabanoo Mody-Kotwal and Kaizaad Kotwal, has become one of India's longest running theatrical productions. The play first came to India in 2003 and has continued to find audiences across generations, precisely because many of the questions it raises remain as relevant today as they were when the production began.
Expect an evening that moves between outrageous humour, poignant drama and powerful storytelling, as different women's voices take centre stage. It is a show about saying the things that are usually left unsaid, and about what can happen when those stories are finally heard.
Funny, uncomfortable, moving and unapologetically honest, The Vagina Monologues is theatre that doesn't simply tell you stories. It asks you to listen.
